I
told you at the beginning of this diary that we had a SIM card from the airport. I suppose we were able to change them to monthly pay, but we wanted a good plan.
HK has a lot of possibilities, and every point wants one thing from you – your HKID card. And they want to sign the contract for at least 2 years…
Hmmm… and what with people that don’t want the chains like that?
The story of getting a Birdie SIM Card exists, of course. It is full of kilometers walked, heat, sweat, and blisters… But let’s skip that.
The rules are clear and easy:
- You go to the Birdie webpage.
- You click that you want to join.
- You get an email with a code that you will need to show in the shop (you will have to pick one from their list – these are mostly Circle K and 759 Stores).
- Click here to go to Birdie-page
After all these steps you have a new, shining, SIM card.
In case you wonder – they count days from the first of each month. The same goes for data/GBs.
So if we took a card in the middle of August – we had only half a month to use everything and with September pay anew. And you can pay with Octopus Pay! – as long as you were able to finally set it up.
Happy looking! And if you took Birdie – happy using.
Post Scriptum
Think about buying a phone from HK. Some functions of a device are connected to the country you come from (Europe for us). For example – you can download some apps only on a local phone (Birdie app for us). On the European phone, we weren’t even able to find it and we couldn’t download it from the webpage directly.
